Halal homemade chicken buns

 Ingredients

 

For the Dough

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • Extra egg for egg wash

For the Chicken Filling

  • 500g halal ground chicken
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 green chilies, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 cup fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Preparation Steps

Preparing the Dough

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine:
    • Flour
    • Instant yeast
    • Salt
    • Sugar
  2. In a separate bowl, mix:
    • Warm milk
    • Vegetable oil
    • 2 eggs
  3. Gradually add wet ingredients to dry ingredients
  4. Knead for 10-12 minutes until smooth and elastic
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth
  6. Let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours until doubled in size

Preparing the Chicken Filling

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet
  2. Add chopped onions, sauté until golden brown
  3. Add ginger-garlic paste, cook for 1 minute
  4. Add ground chicken, break into small pieces
  5. Add spices:
    • Garam masala
    • Turmeric powder
    • Red chili powder
    • Salt
  6. Cook until chicken is fully done and moisture evaporates
  7. Add chopped coriander leaves
  8. Let filling cool completely

Assembling Chicken Buns

  1. Punch down risen dough
  2. Divide into 12-15 equal portions
  3. Roll each portion into a circle
  4. Place 2-3 tablespoons of chicken filling in the center
  5. Carefully fold and seal edges, creating a bun shape
  6. Place on a baking sheet, sealed side down
  7. Let buns rest for 30 minutes
  8. Brush with egg wash

Baking

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
  2. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown
  3. Remove from oven, let cool for 10 minutes
