These butter-soft floral biscuits are delicate, beautiful treats perfect for special occasions like Eid celebrations. With a subtle floral flavor and decorative touches, they make a lovely addition to any dessert table.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon rose water or orange blossom water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
For decoration:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or water
- Food coloring (pink, yellow, lavender)
- Edible dried flowers (rose petals, lavender, etc.)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and rose water/orange blossom water. Mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness.
- Cut out flower shapes using cookie cutters, or round shapes that can be decorated as flowers.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about an inch between each.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes until the edges are just barely golden. Don't overbake!
- Allow to cool completely on a wire rack before decorating.
For the icing:
- Mix the powdered sugar with enough milk to create a thick but spreadable icing.
- Divide the icing into small bowls and add different food coloring to each.
- Decorate the cooled biscuits with the colored icing and sprinkle with edible dried flowers while the icing is still wet.
- Allow the icing to set completely before serving or storing.
